#05: Mother-in-Law
My mother-in-law is a retired physician. She once told my husband, “I’ve seen many patients with this disease. They’re all fine.”
Perhaps, to a physician, a disease that isn’t life-threatening is not severe. But living with it can still be very difficult.
When my in-laws visited, I tried my best to make everyone comfortable. Then she said, “I’m glad you look fine.”
She didn’t know that I was bedridden for a couple of days after they left.
It’s okay if strangers think I’m fine. But I want my family to understand what I’m going through, even when I look fine.
I’m not good at expressing my feelings out loud, so I started these comics.
Living with Pain — sharing what’s hard to say in words.
